I finally finished this gorgeous baby up a couple of months ago, and I could not sit on it any longer! I can’t even believe I kept this project under wraps for as long as I have! I absolutely love how it turned out. Cliche VFX* came to me on behalf of the guys over at Silverar Media to create a modern take on art deco/Great Gatsby for their new look, and after just 2 rounds we were done. They loved the lettering instantly, which was hand drawn and typeset based off of old travel posters, and then the linework was added around it to give it a clean structured feel. It ended up being a little more techy-maze than art deco, but as long as the client is happy I consider it a success. Plus when the end results look this delicious, who’s going to nitpick?
The shading/texturing in here was all done individually– it had to be! It was time-consuming, but time completely well spent.
Even though I’m not sure they’re going to take it or use it, I’m showing some process by way of some definitively snazzy art deco line work. I just love it! Maybe it could have been a background element, or something that could reworked across the brand? The world may never know!
* my sincerest apologies to Oliver Ojeil from Cliche VFX, who alerted me of my error.
