Here’s the third chapter of The Shining, dissected in the same charting awesomeness. This chapter and the one after it are so similar I even did a chart comparing the two chapters–– which I will post after posting Tuesday (the next chapter. mmhmm) I’m of the belief that this chunk of the film is mainly showing what the Torrance family’s life is like, with the huge hotel just as a happenstancery backdrop. Well. I guess I feel that way about most of the movie–at least looking at one layer of the narrative anyway! But that conversation is for another time.
If you want to see the other chapters I’ve dissected so far, here’s 1, and 2, and here’s the chart laying out the different iterations of “Work” and “Play” that conceptually feed into “All work and no play make Jack a dull boy”. Check em out! They’re all good’ns. So what if I’m biased? That’s not the issue here.
